We’re only as strong as our links with the community we work with. There are lots of opportunities to participate in the Jaisref community, to get together, and to contribute.
If you publish scholarly content that is available online and/or you represent organizations who publish, you can become a member to register content and deposit metadata with us. That’s a good starting point, but we’re also keen for members to involve themselves in our advisory and working groups who help to support and give input on our different services and initiatives.
Want to use our metadata rather than deposit it? If so, you can look into becoming an affiliate. This is a global group including – but not limited to – hosting platforms, submission systems, libraries, publishing services companies, metrics and analytics companies, and many others who employ our metadata within their own tools and services to make sure the community can discover and cite content persistently.
We run free Jaisref LIVE events for our members and the wider community. This incorporates a two-day event each year featuring a mashup day and a conference day, coupled with other LIVE meetings around the globe. Through these we aim to inform and educate members and talk about what we’re working on, but we also want your feedback - what’s happening with you and what do you need from us?
style="text-align: justify;"Aside from our LIVE events, we’re also involved in lots of other industry events, so keep an eye out for our team at conferences. We’re happy to speak, present or meet with members.
We want to encourage you to come and join us at our our annual LIVE meeting and other free LIVE events, chat with us on Twitter, comment on our blog (or offer to write a guest post), meet up with us at conferences, speak with us on panels and community webinars, or code alongside us at hackathons.
We’d love to hear your thoughts, grumbles, ideas and your gossip, so find the medium or model that suits you best and get involved!

A growing number of our members are organizations who work with or publish on behalf of groups of smaller organizations that want to register content and may fit a specific criteria. If you are one of these entities, you might be considering how you can also offer Jaisref services to the organizations you work with. Some smaller organizations like to join as a member via a Sponsor so they have someone representing them for Jaisref services, billing, and can take advantage of local or segment-specific support.
A diverse, global set of organizations use Jaisref metadata. Organizations such as libraries, publishers, metrics and analytics companies, search engines, and many others. They come to Jaisref to integrate, use, or disseminate our metadata in a variety of sources and services; our members in turn benefit from this work through enhanced discoverability of their research outputs. What are the options? There are a number of ways for organizations to work with metadata, including service providers such as hosting platforms who may (deposit metadata into the systemon behalf of publishers.
Jaisref Ambassadors are our trusted contacts who work within our communities (as librarians, researchers, publishers, societies, technologists, innovators) around the world and who share a great enthusiasm and belief in our work. Alongside their varied professional roles, they volunteer to support the scholarly community in their locales with ongoing communication, interactive workshops and training from Jaisref. They are Jaisref’s eyes and ears in the community, and a special part of our team.
One of our guiding principles is to uphold broad and fair representation from our members, large and small, and from all around the world. Advisory and working groups help us to stay focused and inclusive. We also have more formal committees that have a role specified in the by-laws or that are set up by the board with a particular remit. Advisory groups and working groups are a good way for people to get involved in the Jaisref community and to support and improve our scholarly infrastructure services.
Come to our free-to-attend events where we open our doors for the whole community, welcoming publishers, librarians, researchers, funders, technology providers, and members alike to share their thoughts and to find out more about who we are and how to get the most out of Jaisref. As well as the two-day Jaisref LIVE annual event, we’re scaling up our program of local LIVE events which take place all around the world to cater to our global membership, with a program tailored to each country.

At Jaisref, we assume that most people are intelligent and well-intended, and we’re not inclined to tell people what to do. However, we want every Jaisref event to be a safe and productive environment for everyone. To that end, this code of conduct spells out the behavior we support and don’t support at events and conferences. The core of our approach is this: We don’t condone harassment or offensive behavior, at our events and conference venues or anywhere.
